Supporting Success

Supporting Success in Education

The Ministry have offered us 2.5% over 18 months - do we know how this will be divided up ie 1.5% over 12 months and then another 1.5% over 6 months ?? If you annualise it , I think it would equate to 1.6% over the year which is more than we got last year and very similar to what the PPTA got this year. Why then is the negotiation team not recommending we accept it given the current economic climate, Christchurch etc ?

I work in the primary sector and think it is important we keep in mind relativity with primary teachers. I believe they got something like 2.5%.  Any offer lower than that sends the message that our relative value in schools, compared to teachers, has reduced.

There is never going to be a 'right time' to address a Fair Deal for Support Staff.  Now is as good a time as any to address inequity, and Support Staff in Christchurch need a Fair Deal at least as much as the rest of us, arguably even more so now.
