Supporting Success

Supporting Success in Education

Putauaki Full Primary has 1 Libriaian, 2 Office Administrators, 1 1/2 Teacher aids & 1 1/2 Special needs Teacher aids.

The main response to the National Standards by all Support Staff is that their is not enough information to give an informed decission. Will it be heading down the same lines as League Tables in the UK. Aren't the National Standards in Australia showing up schools ruther than children. Would the results show a student problem or a teacher. The Government needs to be a lot clearer as to its intentions and what will be done with the results. If they can't give us these details then the only way to see weather or not National standards is a good thing, is to trial it!

Other responses to Questions.

Will it not be the RTLB that will be required to do the extra work rather than the teacher aides?

Are their many if any Teacher Aides in Colleges?

How much data reporting will be required and what are the implecations for administration staff?

Would the extra so called funding by the government be enough for 1 on 1 help? We don't think so.

We need more information to answer these questions.

In response to some of your questions listed.

I work with the RTLB in a Secondary school and yes there will be more caseloads for them but they can not do all the work, infact they are supposed to wotk with the class and the teacher, NOT single students. At present I work with the students who need extra support - I would see this growing greatly.

Yes there are a large number of T/.A's in secondary at present and this work could fall on them as the schools could not employ teachers to do the work, due to lack of funds. Apart from myself there are 10 at our school.
