No More WINZ

Last school holidays was the last time WINZ said they were going to provide an emergency benefit because of a clause in our C.A. (3.11) Annualisation.  Winz are saying that as this is an option I have to take it.  I now have to spread 40 weeks of pay (plus holiday pay) over 52 weeks and I get no support from them.  Its not that I want hand outs from WINZ, but as there are just my wife and myself, and no children, I have to live on what I earn.  And annualisation only kicks in from the beginning…See More

"Good luck Tim. I resigned from Whakatane High today as well. I am moving on. I may not join the union again for the same reasons as you. See you at the job centre!!!!!  "

My Gripe - don't read this as you may find it disheartning

Come February I will be stepping down as sectretary of the local NZEI branch because of health reasons, and my worksite will have to find another worksite rep.  There is a great posibility that I will be resigning from the union as the fees can be better spent else where, it all depends on how I manage over the school holidays.  I have had to change my home phone to a cheaper plan, and have had to cancell insurance policies.  All because the govenerment don't want us plebs to earn a decent…See More

Now that the ratification is over...

Now that the ratification is over, we need to start letting NZEI what WE want to see happen. For a start, I would like to see going back to a 12 monthly C.A. so that inflation can taken into account on a yearly basis.. Secondly, under the SSCA, Page 11, Section 3.3.1 "Note: Attention is drawn to the memorandum attached to this aggreement."  The Memorandum is on page 42  Job Titles.  Under Associate Clace, Grade A there is a entry techical assistant.  Grade B, technical assistant, Grade C,…See More

"Agree with what you say about new support staff joining the union, why would they? A new starter gets 62c an hour less than me, which goes down now that the pay has been ratified to 47c, next round to 32c and then stabalises out at that, I know in…"

The New SSCA

As this new collective agreement (CA) runs out at the end of 2013, we won't see a new agreement until 2014.  Sure, we get a 1.5% increase this year to cover the 5% plus in the cost of living.  But what is the inflation rate going to be like by April 2012?  Is 1.25% going to cover it? And what about April 2013?  I think SS are going to be in the poo financually by the time our new CA is settled in 2014.  What if inflation keeps rising. 7.5% in 2012?  10% by 2013? When our CA is settled in 2014,…See More
