OMG we had such a blast gathering signatures for our "Fair Deal" posters to present to Colin King on the 7th of August!! WE are back out there again tonight so who knows what will happen. Putiputi has really inspired me!!!!
There is a HUGE amount of support out there for Support STaff in schools. The number of people who were aware of what SS contribute to education as a whole was heartening. Comments such as "my mum was a teacher aide", "my wife is a teacher aide", "I have been on school camp and have seen what TA's do for kids and a lot of the time they are kids with high needs, I take my hat off to them" and then shouts around the table "I'll sign it!" "I'll sign it!"
On the other hand there were members of the community who did not have a clue about SS but once I put them in the picture and enlightened them their mounths were hitting the floor and their eyes popping out of their heads and THEN we were having drinks bought for us!! Obviously they got the message we are poorly paid and can't afford our own drinks!!!
I also said how passionate SS were about what they do and how at the end of the day it's all about the kids and New Zealand's future......
I believe that the momentum is beginning to build and get stronger for our cause and the more the public are informed about our issues the more strength we are going to have........was it the Carpenters that sung that song "WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN" maybe that could be our theme song........ talk soon Kia Kaha everyone :) CA
