Hugs to all Christchurch Support Staff

Hi everyone

I was thrilled to see and hear of so many great Support Staff events that went on around the country on the 15th June. It gives us all hope in Christchurch that although we are a little pre-occupied, everyone else is coming to the party on our behalf! We greatly appreciate all the well wishes and words of encouragment. And we appreciate that your activism and determination wont let us down in the coming months. Your energy to stand strong is applauded

So although, Support Staff Day in Christchurch wasnt exactly a splash of pink for everyone yesterday - more of a splash of grey (liquefaction)and tired pale faces, we love that so many of you celebrated elsewhere. Only about 1/3rd of our schools were open on the 15th - and those who were would have had their hands full providing the hugs and support to the children, parents and fellow staff. Teaching and Learning may currently look a little different here, but Support Staff and their Teacher colleagues will continue to deliver a great education. Its amazing how our wee ECE littlies and young students are learning incredible words like "liquefaction" - "I'm scared" and phrases like "The Earth is farting again" as the grey sludge appears across the landscape!!

But we are a resilient lot and although our Christchurch dinner was cancelled - the Support Staff team is looking forward to re-runing an event in the warmer months when travel is not so hazardous. I think our Support Staff Day will be postponed but certainly NOT CANCELLED! ........... whoops another shake - sometimes its hard to know if its your hands that have the tremour or your screen is moving!!

Anyway as our intrepid support staff return to their sites over the next few days, we will continue to focus on what is important - the children that we work with, the families we greet each day and the staff that we support in our sites. Pink is our colour and pink will reign again in Christchurch.

Take care

Tanya
