Supporting Success in Education

After four months of negotiations we have reached what we believe is a good settlement in the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement (SSCA) and the Kaiarahi i te Reo, Therapists', ATSSD and Special Education Assistants' Collective Agreement (KRCA).

Full details will be sent out in the next few days.

Briefly the settlement includes:

  - 4% increase over 28 months for most members
  - Lifting the bottom rates to $15.03 during the term of the agreement
  - Professional forum continuing the work of the workforce strategy
  - Industrial forum to discuss issues in both collective agreements.

Paid Union Meetings (PUMs) are scheduled for 29 August - 16 September 2011.  Information about them will be sent out in the next week so keep an eye out for it.

If you want to know where and when meetings are happening in your area, the schedules are available on the NZEI website www.nzei.org.nz under the Support Staff tab.

Be sure to attend the meetings so you can vote on the settlement and discuss the next phase of the campaign!

I am in now way endorsing the offer put to members, in fact i am not on the team that negotiated this offer.  As i see it the PUMs are our way of saying, NO.  I would like to think that the team have realised this is all they will get out of The Ministry at this point and have decided to let the Members have their say after all it is OUR Collective!  If we vote No, then we will also have to vote on what the next step is.

Just received a flyer saying that we have settled our collective agreement. Why then are we having a meeting thought it was to vote on it. Think our leaders need to get a grip on what is put out to members.

Angry of Whakatane.

Having now read the the proposed claim for 2011 what we have been given comes no where near what was proposed. Are we really expected to accept this watered down version? When will we here from our leaders about what has happened. To let us know at PUM is not giving the members chance to read and digest what we are going to vote on. The brief summary above is very very misleading and does not spell out the poor award that has been negotiated. The meeting at Whakatane should be a real eye opener.

Agree with Tim......My net increase will be $5 a week and I work 30 hours a week..... I will also be voting against the $1 a week rise in membership dues, work it out that is 20% of the pay rise that I will get. They have succeeded in getting the lower pay band up but at the expence of people who have been doing the job for a while.

Lets not be bullied into accepting this rubbish pay offer.

We have our chance to vote on the settlement.  We need to let them know how we feel!

Not happy, 4% over 28 months is NOT a fair deal. I can almost guarantee that the higher saleries commision will give MP's something close to the rate of inflation Per Annum. I think the negotiating team should go back to the the government and continue further negotiating.

Good point Daniel, that is why attendance at Paid Union Meetings is so vital!

I am desperate to read to full settlement agreement. While I realise that our campaign isn't all about money, 4% over more than 2 years when CPI inflation is running at 5.3% per annum, is hard to take.
