Support Staff may be replaced with students

I was very upset to read that with Support Staff being reduced in our Schools, students may take up some of the work.Well don't all staff have to be Police checked before they work in a school .Are students going to be Police checked? Are the at "risk students "going to be working closely with at "risk students". I have worked at a Teacher Aide for 12 years. I know what our youth can be like. eg I would not touch a Student even to touch an arm you can be accused of inappropriate touching. Teacher Aides spend hours building up a trust relationship. Students will not have the training or maturity to deal with "issues' .Parents need to get behind us. Parents pay School fees for their children to get educated . No I do not want students doing our job it is far to insensitive to put them in that position

There is no negativity in my remarks, students have been helping students for a long time now and in some cases make a great deal of difference with the younger kids. We have to agree to disagree on this one. Your statement that we ned to work together is total rubbish what has the union done for support staff over the years that I have been a member, I can answer that, very little. ChCh staff may be grateful I for one am not ChCh is not the centre of the universe we are all in the same boat when it comes to needing support.

It is about time someone can say what they think without fear of retribution. I will and always will say what I think.

This is a fact in ChCh that support staff are having their hours reduced and students are required to do the work eg working in the Library. I agree that the interaction with students assisting is great but not at the expense of support staff jobs. Please stop your negativity on every issue that one of your collegues brings up. We all need to work together after all us as members make the decisions on support staff issues!!!!!! ChCh support staff are truly grateful for the work NZEI are doing down here in christchurch!!!

The students that have been accepted onto the programme are selected for their maturity and how well they interact with the youger students. Another knee jerk reaction to something that actually works.
