Supporting Success in Education

Congratulations to Francie Guy, who attended yesterday's CTU conference as an NZEI rep. Francie, an Auckland deputy principal and NZEI National Exec member, managed to pose a question to Prime Minister John Key about school support staff:

"School support staff are at the frontline of educating our nation's children.

They work with children who are often the most needy - socially, emotionally and educationally. They are also school administrators.

Despite the fact they are at the frontline in education, your Government believes they are worth nothing. Nothing. Because that is what you are offering them in their bargaining.

When will you recognise that:

- they are low paid
- they are mostly women AND
- they work with the nation's most needy children.

When will you recognise the value of support staff by negotiating a wage increase that recognises their roles and their worth?

Good on you Francie - blackmailing tactics are insulting and show that John Key does not value support staff and/or teachers........

Well done to Francie Guy - thank you for asking the vital questions - what are the Government thinking - blackmail does not work in our sector!! in fact in our union!!!

Wonderful ... Francie

So what does our Prime Minister do ??? Oh yes goes back to the typical National Party line - divide and rule . This will not work , one can not exist without the other , so one will support the other . Thats right John just keep those polls up , its better to attack NZEI and its hard working members ah

When will our Prime Minister pull his head out of the sand and decide to sort this issue out, not try the old divide and conquer tactic. Certainly will NOT work. We have PPTA beside us NOT against us.

Go Francie, excellent question... I just cannot believe that our Prime Minister would come back with the answer he did. I am shocked that he undermines all who work in education with such a remark!
